25.05.23 - NUVIEW constellation plans to map the entire surface of the Earth with LiDAR

Currently, only about 5 percent of the Earth's landmass has been mapped using LiDAR. Traditional methods today do not allow for the ability to increase the coverage of LiDAR data. However, the NUVIEW constellation has the potential to change that, and quickly.

A relatively new company in the Earth observation field, NUVIEW, was presented at the Geospatial World Forum (GWF) in Rotterdam. It announced that it is building the first ever constellation of LiDAR satellites to map the entire surface of the Earth in 3D.

It has already listed a number of potential applications and industries that can benefit from this new offering. Some of the services they propose include 3D change detection, digital twin creation, utility corridor mapping, foliage penetration and soil mapping. In addition, they mention environmental management, national mapping initiatives, and telecommunications as logical beneficiary industries and applications.
